National Correctional Nurse Career Pathway Program©

Professional identity is constructed in relation to a reference group of professionals and the workplace (Caballero, 2009). Professional nurse role clarity and career guidance support transition into specialty roles and retention over time (Wei et al, 2021). Positive professional role identity is a key factor in optimizing outcomes such as quality of care, clinical performance, recruitment and retention (Wu et al, 2020; Maranon & Para, 2015; Worthington et al, 2013).
